FAQs

Am I too old to get braces?

There’s no such thing as too old. It is now very socially acceptable, even fashionable to get braces. More and more adults are looking for that “Hollywood smile”. We also offer Clear and Invisible braces for all of our patients. Approximately 50 percent of our patient are adults. Our oldest patient was 76 years old and she was ecstatic with his new smile!

Is it going to hurt?

Not at all! The days of old when tightening braces meant twisting wires followed by pain are long gone. We use the most modern brackets, wires and techniques available in orthodontics today, therefore our adjustments do not hurt at all. Most patients report only a few days of discomfort after initally putting the braces on while their mouth gets used to having low profile braces in their mouth but no discomfort for the rest of the treatment after the first week.

Do I qualify for Invisalign?

That is a great question. During your initial exam, the doctor will do a thorough evaluation of your smile and then hand you the mirror and show you what he sees. If you are interested in Invisalign, ask the doctor if you qualify!

How old does my child need to be to come in for an exam?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that you bring your child to an orthodontist at the age of 7. There are certain treatments that we can do for kids that we cannot do once patient turns 12-13. If we are able to catch certain problems, we are able to save our patients from having to do surgery or extractions once they get full braces with the help of interceptive treatment. We will evaluate the growth and development of your child and discuss the findings during the free initial exam with you. We do not treat all the kids that walk into our office, only the ones that need interceptive treatment. For those patients who are developing normally, we see them for a free check up once a year until they are ready for braces as a service to our patient families.

Do I need teeth extracted or surgery?

Our practice utilizes the most conservative philosophy. We do not like to extract teeth or do surgery if possible. Obviously there are severe cases where extractions are necessary. We evaluate each case and custom tailor treatment plans for each patient. If there is any possible way to save our patients from surgery or extractions we will present those options. With the help of interceptive treatment and the latest treatment techniques such as TADs (temporary attachment device), we were able to save countless patient from having to do surgery and extractions.
